Character Development – At YES Prep we believe that raising strong young men and women is just as important as raising test scores. Each of our campuses implements a character development curriculum that focuses on developing strong values, study habits, and the life skills students need to be successful.
Discipline – In order to best learn and thrive, we believe students need a caring and structured environment. To achieve this, YES Prep has designed a school-wide discipline system so that expectations and consequences are predictable and consistent in all classrooms. For our middle school students, they receive ‘marks’ for inappropriate behaviors and earn consequences for excessive marks in any given week. In high school, students are given more freedom and transition to a simplified consequence system where the primary consequence is after-school detention. There are also a variety of ways to earn positive rewards for positive behaviors. For example, ‘Bid Trips’ happen regularly on most of our campuses, where students can earn fun field trips like going to Houston Dynamo games or to the movies. Wall Street – One way that YES Prep reinforces the importance of practicing new skills through completing their homework each night is ‘Wall Street’ for middle school students. On Wall Street, the business people don’t go home until the work is done and we agree with that motto. If a middle school student chooses not to complete their homework on time, they stay after school to complete it. It is important to us that students learn the importance of building strong study habits early on and we believe our ‘Wall Street’ system helps to develop these habits.
Student Support – While we believe in our discipline system, we feel that what makes our schools strong is a commitment to building a caring, family-like culture on every campus so that students feel supported throughout their experience at YES Prep. Each campus has a student support team made up of 2 full-time Student Support Counselors, the Dean of Students, and several teachers who work together to ensure students have the academic and personal support they need to be successful.
