This morning, the YES Prep Board of Directors unanimously passed a resolution in support of our undocumented and immigrant students. As you know, last week the Trump administration announced the end of DACA. In light of that disappointing decision, one that has caused heightened fear and anxiety for many of our students, families, and teammates, the attached resolution both recognizes our ongoing commitment to our undocumented and immigrant students and establishes a clear commitment to how we will fight for permanent protections moving forward.
Specifically, the board resolved to that YES Prep will:
- Treat all students equitably in the receipt of all school services, including but not limited to, the free and reduced lunch program, transportation, and educational instruction;
- Refrain from inquiring about students' immigration status or their families' immigration status;
- Refer any request or inquiry by ICE for data or information or to visit a school site to the Chief Executive Officer or Chief Schools Officer and appropriate legal counsel for review unless there is an immediate and acute risk of substantial harm or injury.
- Mobilize and maximize the full weight of the YES Prep network to support the creation of a legislative replacement for DACA (Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals) to protect the livelihood and opportunities of the Dreamers associated with YES Prep.
Today the YES Prep Board of Directors took a bold stand for the communities we serve and for many of our teammates.
