YES Prep High Schools Take Gold in National Rankings

Best High Schools logoFive of our qualifying high schools earned gold medals from the U.S. News and World Report 2016 Best High Schools list. With over 21,500 public high schools in 50 states and the District of Columbia considered, only the top 500 schools with the highest college readiness scores received the gold medal distinction. That's just 2.5% of all schools assessed! A sixth YES Prep campus earned a bronze medal, which is awarded to high-performing schools based on state exam performance. This group represents only 17.8% of ranked schools.

Kudos to our inspiring school leaders, dedicated teachers, and talented students who give 100% every day and are redefining the future of our city and our nation.

This Q&A explains how US News & World Report ranks schools.

Q:   Why are only some of our schools ranked?

A: This is a best high schools list, so only our fully grown campuses with alumni in college qualify.

Q: Why aren't all eight fully grown YES Prep high schools listed?

A:  U.S. News requires that a school have "high enough 12th-grade enrollment and sufficient enrollment in other grades during the 2013-2014 school year to be eligible for the rankings." This criterion makes our West and Brays Oaks campuses ineligible because this is their first year with a senior class. They did not have sufficient enrollment in the 2013-2014 school year to qualify.
