As we wrap up the 2023-2024 school year, we reflect on a milestone that was nothing short of spectacular—our 25th anniversary! This year has been a remarkable journey, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who made it memorable, including over 2,100 faculty and staff who passionately served nearly 18,000 students across Houston.
Celebrating #25YearsOfYES!
Since 1998, YES Prep Public Schools has redefined what is possible in public education. With over 18,000 students across 23 schools and programs, we are a system of high-performing public charter schools proving that students from any community can achieve at the highest academic levels. Our exceptional results demonstrate that better outcomes are not only possible, but also probable, when school systems build a culture of high expectations and create effective support systems to ensure that student achievement is at the forefront of every decision made.
During the 2023-2024 school year, we will be commemorating our 25 years of impact by sharing our history, our milestones and stories.
We would also LOVE to hear from you! Do you have a story to share of how YES Prep made an impact on your life? Let us know so we can share it.

History of YES
#25YearsOfYES Stories
On March 7, 1998, YES Prep Public Schools was awarded a charter from the State of Texas. This was just the beginning of Founder Chris Barbic’s dream—to create a new school where students would have a better chance at success. Little did he know that his dream to provide opportunities for students in underserved communities would forever change the landscape of education in Houston.
