Federal Report Cards
The Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA), requires each state education agency to prepare and publish an annual report card with state-, district-, and campus-level data.
Every district that receives Title I, Part A funding is responsible for distributing the campus-, district-, and state-level report cards to each of its campuses, the parents of all enrolled students, and the public.
School Report Cards
The school report card (SRC) combines accountability ratings, data from the Texas Academic Performance Report (TAPR), and financial information to give a broad view of campus performance. The SRC is intended specifically to inform parents and guardians about a school's individual characteristics and its academic performance.
Texas Academic Performance Report
Texas Academic Performance Reports (TAPR) present school performance disaggregated by student groups, including ethnicity and socioeconomic status. TAPRs also provide extensive information on school staff, programs, and student demographics.
Accountability
Texas provides annual academic accountability ratings to its public school districts, charters and schools. The ratings are based largely on performance on state standardized tests, graduation rates, and postsecondary readiness. The ratings examine student achievement, school progress, and efforts to close achievement gaps among various student groups.

Accreditation
TEA accredits public schools in Texas at the district level for grades K-12.
Due to litigation, the issuance of 2023 academic accountability ratings was delayed pending a judicial ruling, which in turn postponed the release of 2023-2024 accreditation statuses. In April 2025, the Fifteenth Court of Appeals ruled that TEA could release 2023 accountability ratings, and the ratings for 2023 were finalized on August 19, 2025. As a result of this delay, the issuance of the 2023-2024 accreditation statuses is outside of the normal release cycle.
TEA expects the 2024-2025 and 2025-2026 accreditation statuses to be issued in spring of 2026.
