Latinx Leadership Summit
2022 Latinx Leadership Summit
This year, YES Prep moved the summit to the fall, falling in between Latinx Heritage Month and before Day of the Dead. Moving up the summit, as opposed to presenting it in March, makes it timelier.
This year’s summit was held on Saturday, October 29, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at YES Prep Brays Oaks Secondary, with the theme Reclaiming Traditions. Latinx students and staff were able to root themselves in the traditions of their culture (especially those that have been appropriated) and honoring their roots.
Returning as co-leads of the summit: Kimberly Gallegos, manager of program vendor operations; Natalie Garcia, director of student support at YES Prep Brays Oaks Secondary; and Lilian Macias, director of YES Prep Thrive. To learn more about our co-leads, click here.
Students who attend the summit can expect the following:
- Breakfast and lunch provided by Chicos Catering
- Sessions on reclaiming traditions
- Networking with YES Prep students and staff from across the district, as well as community guest speakers
- Senior recognition and distribution of heritage stoles for graduation
- Swag
- Selfie stations
About the Latinx Leadership Summit
The Latinx Leadership Summit exists to provide a safe and welcoming space for high school students and staff who identify as Latinx. The summit allows participants and presenters to celebrate and connect with one another, share their stories and learn more about their identity.
