At YES Prep, we believe that a well-rounded education goes beyond core subjects. Our 6-12 Electives and Career & Technology Education (ECTE) program offers students exciting opportunities to explore their interests, express their creativity, and build real-world skills that prepare them for college, careers, and life.

From arts and music to health, technology, and career-focused courses, our electives help students develop confidence, critical thinking, and practical skills they can carry into the future. Our goal is to provide every student with a meaningful and rigorous learning experience that supports their passions and prepares them for success in college and beyond.

Elective Course Requirements

At YES Prep, we ensure that all students have access to a well-rounded education that includes creative expression, physical activity, and real-world skills.

6-7th Grade Middle School Electives:

Students take one semester of Physical Education (PE) and one semester of Art each year to build healthy habits and creative thinking.
Some students may also have the option to take additional fine arts or technology courses.

8th Grade Electives for High School Credit:

8th grade students take three high school credit electives:
PE: Lifetime Fitness & Wellness Pursuits (1 credit) – Develop lifelong fitness habits
Principles of Information Technology (1 credit) – Build essential technology skills
Health I (.5 credits) – Develop health literacy, focused on personal wellness and well-being

9th-12th Grade High School Electives:

9th Grade: All students take Interpersonal Studies & Professional Communication (ISPC) to fulfill the Texas speech requirement while building skills for success in high school, college, and beyond.
Fine Arts Requirement: To graduate, students must complete at least one credit in a fine arts course (as required by the State of Texas). Students can choose from Art, Music, Dance, or Theatre depending on campus offerings.
Additional Electives: Students can choose from a variety of career, technology, fine arts, and other elective options based on their interests and future goals to fulfil the remainder of elective graduation requirements.
