Online Scholars
Expand Your Student’s Learning Opportunities — From Their Own Campus

The YES Prep Online Scholars Program (YPOP) gives high school students (grades 9–12) access to specialized and Advanced Placement (AP) courses that may not be offered at their home campus — all without leaving school.
Students participate in live, online classes taught by YES Prep teachers who connect students across multiple campuses for a shared learning experience.
Courses Offered
The YPOP program includes the following courses:
-
AP Computer Science Principles*
-
AP African American Studies*
-
AP Psychology*
-
AP Spanish Literature*
-
Fundamentals of Computer Science
-
Mandarin Chinese I
-
Mandarin Chinese II
*All AP courses allow students to earn college credit at no cost, depending on their performance on the AP exam in May.
-
More Opportunities: Students can explore new interests or advanced subjects not available at their campus.
-
College Readiness: Students build skills in technology, time management, communication, and self-advocacy — all vital for college and career success.
-
Connected Learning: Live classes mean real teachers, real classmates, and interactive lessons — not self-paced modules.
-
Flexible & Supported: Students attend these classes during their regular school day with on-campus support from a teacher "Learning Coach."
Who Supports Students
Each YPOP class is supported by a team of two teachers who work together to ensure your student’s success:

This partnership combines the expertise of a subject matter expert with the hands-on support of a classroom coach, creating a safe, connected, and engaging environment.
How It Works
YPOP classes appear on your student’s regular daily schedule.
-
During class students report to a designated classroom on campus and check-in with the Learning Coach. From there, students log in to their online class.
-
Students join a live lesson through Microsoft Teams or Zoom led by a YES Prep teacher who teaches students from several campuses at once.
-
Students interact live on camera, answer questions, and participate in discussions in real time.
-
Lessons include a mix of whole-group instruction, breakout sessions, and interactive activities using platforms like Schoology, Nearpod, and other digital learning tools.
-
Students collaborate both in person and digitally — working together on shared projects, discussion boards, and small-group activities.
-
-
The Learning Coach (a campus teacher) is always present in the classroom to support students, monitor participation, and communicate with the online teacher.
-
Grades, assignments, and attendance are tracked and recorded the same way as any other YES Prep class.
