YES Prep supports all students applying for all the financial aid they qualify for. The 2025-2026 Online TASFA will be opening for students and their families on December 2, 2024.
TASFA stands for Texas Application for State Financial Aid, and it’s designed to help any student who is a not a U.S. citizen—but is classified as a Texas resident—get an opportunity to receive Texas state grants. TASFA was created by the State of Texas who wanted to help non-U.S. citizens who don’t qualify for federal financial aid the opportunity to attend college and afford college in Texas.

Who can submit the TASFA

Students who are classified by the institution as a Texas Resident who cannot apply for federal financial aid, using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), are encouraged to complete the TASFA. To see if you qualify for the FAFSA, please visit www.studentaid.gov. Do not complete both the FAFSA and TASFA.

Is there a deadline to complete the TASFA

Deadlines vary by institution. We recommend you contact the college you plan to attend to confirm final deadlines. Students should apply as soon as possible to maximize their state financial aid options since funding is limited.

The State Priority Deadline was extended to February 15, 2025 for the 2025-2026 application year by the THECB.

This is only for the specified application year and will revert to January 15 for future years.

The priority deadline is not a hard deadline so applicants can still submit a TASFA after this date. Applications that are submitted before the deadline will receive priority consideration for available funding.

What type of aid do I receive through the TASFA

Students who complete the TASFA are eligible for State of Texas Financial Aid and institutional aid at colleges and universities. This financial aid includes:

TEXAS Grant program funds are available to eligible students attending General Academic Teaching Institutions (GATIs) in Texas (excluding Lamar State College-Orange and Lamar State College-Port Arthur).

TEOG program funds are available to eligible students attending community colleges, public state colleges (including Lamar State College-Orange and Lamar State College-Port Arthur), and public technical institutes.

TEG program funds are available to eligible students attending a private or independent institution of higher education

The FORWARD Loan Program is a low-interest loan designed for students enrolled in programs aligned with high-value credentials and high-demand occupations. This program is limited to students enrolled in specific programs within the fields of Energy, Nursing/Patient Care, Teaching, Technology, and Transportation/Logistics.

CAL program funds are available to eligible students attending public or private nonprofit institutions and entities, including Regional Education Service Centers, located in Texas.
