TSIA2

The Texas Success Initiative Assessment (TSIA2) is a placement test that helps Texas public colleges and universities understand what classes you are ready to take when you graduate by assessing: reading, writing, and mathematics.

Many students across Texas wait until after graduation to take the TSIA2. At YES Prep, we do it differently:

We test early
We provide multiple opportunities
We support improvement over time

This means students graduate with more options and fewer barriers.

At YES Prep, we make sure every student has the opportunity to take the TSIA2 multiple times across their high school experience, if needed, to show they are College Ready before they graduate.

Who Takes the TSIA2?

Grade Level:

10th Grade: All 10^th Graders, first opportunity to test
11^th Grade: All 11^th Graders who did not earn a College Ready Score in 10^th Grade or received an exemption through the SAT
12th Grade: 12^th Graders get the opportunity to take one subject at a time, if they haven’t previously earned a college ready score on the TSIA2 or SAT throughout their senior year.

TSIA2 Testing at YES Prep

YES Prep provides free TSIA2 testing on campus so students can test in a familiar, supportive environment.

Test Date(s):

12^th Grade: TSIA2 English - December 16, 2025
12^th Grade: TSIA2 Math - April 9, 2026
10^th & 11^th: TSIA2 English - April 28, 2026
10^th & 11^th Grade: TSIA2 Math – April 29^th, 2026

Each student has the opportunity to take between three and four times over the course of their time at YES Prep.

The assessment is free of cost for students who take the test at YES Prep. Typically, students who take the TSIA at a college or university must pay up to $30 for the assessment. Should a student want or need to test off campus, they will be responsible for any required fees.

What does it mean to be "College Ready"?

Students who are “College Ready” can enroll directly into entry level coursework at a college or university. You can show college readiness through SAT OR TSIA2.

Option 1: SAT

480 EBRW = College Ready in English
530 Math = College Ready in Math

Option 2: TSIA2

English:
- 945+ on Multiple Choice OR Diagnostic Level 5+
- AND 5+ on Essay
Math:
- 950+ OR Diagnostic Level 6

If students do not meet SAT benchmarks, the TSIA2 provides another pathway to demonstrate readiness.

What happens if you don’t get a College Ready Score?

That’s okay. The TSIA2 is a placement test and also a growth opportunity:

Students receive clear feedback on their skills from the diagnostic.
YES Prep provides support to improve
Students can retake the test

Being “not yet ready” as a sophomore or junior is part of the process, not a failure. Even if you are Senior and have not earned a College Ready score, you can talk with colleges you are applying to about what intervention courses in colleges may look like, including having opportunities to participate in programs like Summer Bridge programs to get ready for the future.

Why should students take TSIA2?

Colleges and Universities require the submission of test scores like the SAT and TSIA2 in order for students to register for classes, so they can place them in the correct classes their first semester.

Any student wishing to enroll in a Texas public college or university, whether 2- or 4-year, must submit test scores to register, and failing to submit scores can create a hold on your account that can slow down the process of registering.

Additionally, having test scores will help your Academic Advisors build a strong first semester schedule to ensure you are set up for success in college.
