When charter schools first came to Texas, they were created with strong support from both sides of the political aisle. Families were excited about the promise of high-quality education and expanded opportunities for students. For many years, our community benefitted from that broad support.
Today, however, things are changing. In recent years, some groups have worked to spread misinformation about charter schools, blaming them for problems like struggling traditional districts or statewide funding issues. While we are fortunate not to face the same hostility seen in other states, the tone in Texas has clearly shifted.
As a parent, you deserve to know the truth—and you deserve a voice in protecting your child’s education. For too long, our focus has been solely on doing the work: providing students with a strong, supportive learning environment. But by staying quiet, we’ve allowed others to tell a false story about who we are and what we stand for.
Now more than ever, we need your help. The charter school community must speak up—to correct the record and make sure our schools, and our students, continue to thrive.
