Lottery FAQs

The open enrollment season begins on Friday, October 13, 2023 and ends on Sunday, February 18, 2024. Once the open enrollment deadline has passed, you may submit an application to be placed on our waitlist. Our YES Prep campuses continue to backfill all seats until meeting enrollment. 

All families submitting a lottery application will receive electronic communication (email or text message, depending on selected preference on application) stating whether or not their child was accepted by the lottery or if they are on the waitlist.

Unfortunately, multiple applications to the same YES Prep school do not increase your chances of receiving a seat at YES Prep. However, all interested families are encouraged to select up to 3 schools to apply to. If a family falls in a YES Prep zone, they will default an application to their zoned school. Duplicate applications are flagged and removed from the enrollment platform system. 

YES Prep is a free, open enrollment public school.  We do not charge tuition to attend.

If the student lives more than 2 miles away from their primary campus, within a YES zone, YES Prep will provide transportation to the campus. Applicants will be notified whether they are in the primary zone or not when they apply to the lottery. All other families accepted can also access any existing campus bus stop that is closest to them. For more transportation information, please visit the YES Prep Transportation page. 

Applicants can use the map on the application website to help them select other YES Prep schools as secondary choices.  Applicants do not need to pick secondary campuses if they are not interested in attending those. Transportation routes will not consider applicants outside of the primary campus zone. Please note that YES Prep partnership schools cannot select secondary choices due to our contracts with the ISD partnership schools.

NO all existing YES Prep students do not need to complete another application for enrollment. Returning students are automatically enrolled in the subsequent school year. However, existing families should look to complete Intent to Return beginning in early 2024 to ensure their seats. If you want to move to another YES Prep campus, you may request a transfer request. Additional information on transfers will be communicated leading up to the 2024 new year. 

Yes. Eligible siblings of current, existing students must apply to the lottery for admittance into YES Prep. All applying sibling students receive a sibling attending priority within the lottery. Eligible sibling attending applicants are siblings who share at least one biological parent or one legal guardian and do not have an active YES Prep expulsion on their school record. This does not include siblings of alumni, children of alumni, cousins, or extended friends and family.
