Teachers across multiple YES Prep schools have once again come together to offer the AP Summit for our YES Prep high school students enrolled in an AP course. This year, the AP Summit is offered the last two Saturdays in April at two different locations: YES Prep Gulfton Secondary on April 22 and YES Prep East End Secondary on April 29. However, students enrolled in an AP course can attend either or both.

The AP Summit is a day of intensive review and practice taught by AP teachers from across YES Prep. Each review session at AP Summit targets the most important concepts from the curriculum, covers questions from previous AP exams and provides students with tips on the exams. Students may take three different review sessions at the summit.

Yareli Gordillo, senior at YES Prep North Forest Secondary, has attended the AP Summit for the past two years. Last year, Gordillo attended AP Summit for the sessions provided on AP English Literature and Composition. As a result of the extra preparation she received at AP Summit, she earned college credit for the course. Gordillo shares, “I can confidently say that the sessions I attended helped me perform better because they provided me with additional resources and tips. Additionally, these sessions taught me to think critically; something that is essential when taking AP exams.” When asked if she would recommend other students in AP courses to attend the AP Summit she said, “I would definitely recommend the AP Summit to my fellow AP classmates because this event provides students with the knowledge of how to better understand the material as well as help them learn the thought process behind the correct answers.

This year Yareli is taking several AP courses, those being AP Calculus AB, AP Physics C: Mechanics, AP Government and Politics and AP English Language and Composition. To date, she has earned college credit for AP English Literature and Composition and AP Spanish Language and Culture. After high school graduation, she hopes to attend Houston Christian University and pursue a career in Electrical Engineering.

To Yareli and our other 3,384 students taking AP exams soon, we wish you the best of luck!

Thank you to the teachers, staff and families who make this event possible for our students. It is thanks to your time and dedication that gives our students the opportunity to attend college with one step ahead.
