For two decades, Houston’s energy industry has come together for an evening of philanthropy, camaraderie, and competition at the YES Prep Energy Texas Hold 'Em Tournament. Since its inception in 2006, this annual tradition has raised more than $24 million in support of YES Prep students, ensuring they receive the high-quality education they deserve.
This year’s milestone event, held at The Corinthian Houston, brought together over 600 industry professionals and over 80 sponsoring companies, all with a shared commitment to making a difference. Thanks to their generosity, the 20th Annual YES Prep Energy Texas Hold 'Em Tournament raised an impressive $2.1 million to benefit YES Prep students.
The excitement in the room was palpable as players reconnected with colleagues, strategized their hands, and enjoyed an evening of high-stakes poker and exceptional hospitality. Attendees indulged in a gourmet spread while the tournament unfolded, culminating in the final round in The Vault—once the original First National Bank vault—sponsored by Vitol.
The championship round was an intense battle of skill and strategy, with participants vying for the coveted title. In the end, it was Calvin Greer, seated at the Vitol 3 table, who emerged victorious, claiming the championship title for 2025.
“The energy industry fuels Houston’s economy, and investing in education ensures that future generations have the skills and opportunities to thrive,” said Steve Mohtashami, steering committee member. “Supporting YES Prep and this tournament means investing in the next generation of leaders.”
For 20 years, the YES Prep Energy Texas Hold 'Em Tournament has brought together Houston’s top industry leaders in support of YES Prep’s mission. The event’s continued success is made possible through the dedication of the tournament’s Steering Committee: Aaron Byrd, Marisa Chavarria, Brian Colona, Michol Ecklund, Austin Elam, Jerrid Gunderson, Jeffrey Milstein, Steve Mohtashami, and Bill Nelson.
