Brays Oaks Class of 2020

Brays Oaks celebrates fifth annual College Acceptance Rally

On January 17, YES Prep Brays Oaks’ Class of 2020 declared their college acceptances thus far at the fifth annual College Acceptance Rally.

At YES Prep, all campuses have rituals their seniors perform when they learn they’ve been accepted into college. At Brays Oaks, each senior declares the colleges they’ve been accepted to as they bang the Cavalier drum, named after their school mascot. The event serves as a mid-way pump-up event before YES Prep’s annual Senior Signing Day on May 19, 2020, where all of YES Prep seniors declare their chosen college or other post-secondary choices.

Class of 2020 speaker

Among the event’s special speakers, Brays Oaks senior Collins Agyeman was voted by his peers to serve as the student speaker for this year’s rally.

A student at YES Prep Brays Oaks since sixth grade, Collins prides himself on his ability to adapt to change. For several years, he and his brother lived in Ghana with his aunt and uncle while his parents established themselves in the United States. Upon returning to the states he enrolled at YES Prep. Since then, he has thoughtfully selected his extracurricular activities to develop himself as a leader and prepare himself for a career in politics in the future.

Brays Oaks, you are not just looking at a graduating class. You are looking at seven long years of hard work and dedication. There will be a time in the future when our Class of 2020 will be a memory in your minds. But when that future comes, may it be said that 2020 was the class that led Brays Oaksno, YES Prepinto this new decade."

Collins has been accepted into Lycoming College, Southern Methodist University (SMU), University of Houston, the University of Texas at Dallas, Lamar, University of North Texas, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley, and Texas Southern University.

Collins’ long-term plans are to major in Political Science, study constitutional law, and enter politics.
