YES Prep Public Schools
JENNIFER PEREZ

Every holiday season, YES Prep Public Schools proudly showcases the creative talent of its students through our annual Holiday Card Contest. This year, we are thrilled to spotlight Victor Juares, a senior at YES Prep North Forest Secondary and the artist behind the 2024 YES Prep Holiday Card.

A Glimpse Into Victor’s Artwork

Victor’s stunning holiday card design draws inspiration from the timeless classic The Night Before Christmas. Using oil pastel techniques such as cross-hatching, hatching, and color blending, he brought his vision to life, crafting a piece filled with warmth and holiday cheer. “Oil pastels are tough to blend, but I enjoy using different techniques to make my art look realistic,” Victor shared. His dedication to detail and passion for art truly shine through in his winning creation.

Victor’s YES Prep Journey

Victor is part of a family of six and the second in his family to pursue college, following in the footsteps of his older sister, who also graduated from YES Prep. He credits his art teacher, Ms. Shrepee, for encouraging him to explore his artistic potential, sharing, “she always cheers me on and has helped me see a possible career in art.”

Reflecting on his time at YES Prep, Victor emphasized the value of the school’s supportive community:

“I chose YES Prep because of the opportunities they bring us and the recognition we get for our hard work. My favorite part of my experience has been getting recognized for my achievements, whether through certificates or other honors.”

Beyond the Canvas

In addition to his artistic pursuits, Victor is actively involved in extracurricular activities at YES Prep North Forest Secondary. As he looks ahead to graduation, Victor plans to attend a four-year college, with aspirations to major in accounting, business, or social work.

The Power of YES

For Victor, the Power of YES represents the endless possibilities available to students who are willing to work hard and excel academically. “The Power of YES means opportunities open up for me if I put in the work and excel,” he explained.

Thank You for Supporting YES Prep Students

Victor’s journey and accomplishments are a testament to the transformative power of education and the support YES Prep provides. This holiday season, we celebrate students like Victor and the teachers, families, and supporters who believe in their potential.

From all of us at YES Prep, thank you for believing in Houston students, supporting public education, and helping us empower the next generation of leaders.

Happy Holidays!
