This year, members of the department have earned major state and national awards, celebrating both rising talent and experienced leadership.
Hilda Centeno Honored with Horizon Award
Hilda Centeno has been honored with the Horizon Award by the Association for Nutrition and Food Service Professionals. This award recognizes members with five years or less of experience in the foodservice industry who have shown outstanding promise in leadership and innovation. As an Operations Specialist for YES Prep’s Child Nutrition Department, Hilda has quickly distinguished herself through proactive initiatives within her facility and broader community. She has demonstrated a strong commitment to professional growth, operational excellence, and fostering community, culture and connection in the workplace. Her passion and impact reflect the spirit of the Horizon Award, making her a truly deserving recipient.
Dr. Jessiica Howell Earns Dual Statewide Honors
YES Prep’s Director of Child Nutrition, Dr. Jessiica Howell was recognized as the recipient of the Outstanding Nutrition Education Award by the Texas Association for School Nutrition. This award honors individuals who have developed innovative and engaging ways to promote nutrition education within their school communities. Dr. Howell has led transformative efforts to integrate nutrition education into the daily experiences of students, staff, and families through district-wide events such as National School Lunch Week, National School Breakfast Week, wellness celebrations, interactive food tastings, and the launch of the Brighter Bites initiative at a priority campus. Her work has empowered students and families to make healthier lifestyle choices, reinforcing the cafeteria’s role as a vital extension of the classroom.
Additionally, Dr. Howell was the recipient of the School Nutrition Director of the Year Award at the Texas Association for School Nutrition (TASN) Annual Conference held in Corpus Christi, Texas from June 22 to June 25, 2025. This award honors a school nutrition professional who plays a vital role in managing the day-to-day operations of an entire district’s food service program. Dr. Howell's exceptional leadership, dedication to student wellness, and commitment to operational excellence have made a lasting impact on the school nutrition community. Her work in collaboration with school food and nutrition specialists, managers, supervisors, and district leadership exemplifies the purpose of this recognition.
