Through the generosity of various organizations and individual donors, the YES Prep Alumni Scholarship Program was able to support 159 alumni pursuing a college education for the 2022-2023 academic year, including 89 alumni from the Class of 2022 and 70 alumni from the graduating classes of 2018 through 2021, who were eligible to renew their scholarships.
In total, the YES Prep Alumni Scholarship Program provided over $319,000 in financial support to YES Prep alumni pursuing college during the 2022-2023 academic year, empowering them to succeed in college and to pursue lives of opportunity.
The alumni scholarship impact
Each YES Prep Alumni Scholar can use the scholarship they receive from YES Prep to invest in their education, beyond what university financial aid can cover.
One recipient who is investing in their education is Mayli Marroquin, a Pagan Scholar at George Washington University (GWU), who graduated in the Class of 2022.
Mayli, is one of 13 students at GWU that has been selected for the ACE (America, China, Europe) Program. This program is designed specifically for international business majors and consists of obtaining three degrees from three universities: Luiss University in Rome, Renmin University of China in Beijing, and George Washington University in Washington, DC.
Mayli will be studying her sophomore year in Rome, Italy and her junior year in Beijing, China. Mayli shared she would not have this opportunity without the support of YES Prep donors. She stated, “Hearing my friends say the amount of money they must pay out of pocket made me realize that I am very lucky to have financial help on my side, and for that, I am very appreciative. I don’t have to worry about how I must pay for my education. Above all, I am grateful for the donor's generous contribution to my education. As the saying goes, “A little goes a long way!”
