YES Prep Public Schools and Legacy Community Health celebrated a major milestone with the ribbon cutting of two new school-based health clinics at YES Prep Hobby Secondary and YES Prep Hobby Elementary. These clinics mark the 20th and 21st Legacy clinics across the YES Prep system, expanding access to vital health care for thousands of students, families, and staff.

A Partnership That Removes Barriers
Since 2015, YES Prep and Legacy have partnered to provide school-based health services that address both immediate needs and long-term wellness. With students often facing challenges like lack of health insurance, limited transportation, or parents missing work to take children to appointments, these on-campus clinics remove barriers that can stand in the way of learning.
“Our families do everything they can to support their children's future, and now they won't have to miss work or scramble to find transportation when their kids are not feeling well,” said Adrienne Brown, Principal of Hobby Secondary. “Our students can also get the care they need right here in our campus and in many cases return to classes the same day, and that's very powerful.”
Comprehensive Care for Students
Legacy clinics offer a wide range of pediatric services, including treatment for common illnesses, vaccines, physicals, and minor injuries, as well as behavioral health services for challenges such as anxiety, depression, grief, and trauma.
This is an example of how YES Prep is committed to removing the barriers that take our students out of school. Sometimes our family's first medical home has been Legacy, and we are very excited to be able to offer these services to another community.
Voices From the Community
For many families, these clinics mean peace of mind. Emilse Olivas, a YES Prep employee at Hobby Elementary and parent, shared her perspective at the event. “It’s not about convenience; it’s about peace of mind. It’s knowing that my child and every child here at YES Prep can get the care they need without delay,” she said. “Together, YES Prep and Legacy are showing what it means to care for the whole child.”
Legacy CEO Robert Palussek also noted the broad impact of these services. “Last year, Legacy helped 14,000 students through school-based health services, completing 70,000 appointments,” he said. “When we invest in students’ physical and mental health, we invest in the future of our communities.”
