February is National School-Based Health Care Awareness Month, highlighting how School-Based Health Centers (SBHCs) bring medical and behavioral health care directly to students—keeping them healthy, in class, and ready to learn.
A Decade of Partnership Supporting YES Prep Families
This year marks 10 years of School-Based Health Care at YES Prep Public Schools, reflecting a long‑term collaboration between Legacy Community Health and the district to meet students where they are. During the 2024–2025 school year, Legacy completed more than 72,000 medical and behavioral health appointments and served nearly 14,000 students, demonstrating the impact of accessible, on‑campus care. Schools with School-Based Health Care centers see fewer absences, less stress for working parents, and stronger overall student well‑being.

Why Pediatric & Behavioral Health Care Matter for Your Child
Pediatric and behavioral health services play a critical role in supporting healthy development and fostering school success.
- Early Identification: Routine checkups help detect concerns early.
- Supports Academic Performance: Healthy students focus better and miss fewer school days.
- Addresses Anxiety & Depression: Behavioral health care builds coping skills and emotional resilience.
- Healthy Development: Coordinated care supports physical, emotional, and social growth.
Why School-Based Care Boosts Academic Success
School-based care directly supports learning by removing obstacles that often keep students out of school.
- Fewer Absences: Students can be seen quickly and often return to class on the same day.
- Better Management of Chronic Conditions: Regular monitoring helps students stay stable and engaged.
- Improved Emotional Well Being: Therapy and behavioral health support help students manage stress, grief, and attention challenges.
- Reduced Burden on Families: Parents do not need to miss work or arrange transportation—and still receive updates after every visit.
Healthy students learn better. School-based care helps make that possible.
