Students at North Forest Secondary came together for a high-energy afternoon focused on wellness, movement, and teamwork during this year’s Fuel Up Flag Football Wellness Event.

Hosted by YES Prep’s Child Nutrition team, Fuel Up promotes student health, physical activity, and healthy choices through engaging, real-world experiences. The initiative is supported by the NFL FLAG-In-School program, which provides free flag football kits to schools nationwide to encourage movement and teamwork.

On the field, middle and high school students showcased their teamwork and athletic ability. Through support from the grant, each participant received a football and a medal, recognizing their commitment and effort. The day also included awards for the winning team and a Most Valuable Player, celebrating both individual and team success. With music from 97.9 The Box and a crowd full of energy, students had a blast competing and connecting.

Meet three students from this year’s event who showed perseverance on and off the field.

Tim Thompson

In a close playoff game decided by just one point, Tim Thompson delivered a touchdown that made the difference for his team.

For Tim, flag football is more than a game. It is where confidence, teamwork, and belief come together.

One of his proudest moments came during that playoff game, where preparation and trust in his teammates paid off.

Like many athletes, Tim feels nervous before games. Instead of letting that stop him, he leans into his team and focuses on playing his best.

Through flag football, Tim has built friendships, found a sense of belonging, and strengthened his connection to his community. He plans to keep playing through high school, carrying with him lessons in teamwork, resilience, and pride.

Isaiah Hayes

A championship win marked a major milestone for Isaiah Hayes, but the journey to get there mattered just as much.

For Isaiah, growth came through effort and consistency.

Catching the ball was not always easy at first, but he stayed committed. He practiced, listened to his coach, and kept improving. Over time, his confidence and skill grew together.

Through flag football, Isaiah has stepped out of his comfort zone and built strong connections with his teammates. He is excited to continue playing in high school and to keep developing both on and off the field.

Tre ’Vielle Johnson

Taking on a new position pushed Tre ’Vielle Johnson, known as Tre The Truth, to grow in new ways this season.

For Tre, this experience was about stepping into something new.

Playing wide receiver challenged him, but he met that challenge with focus and determination. By practicing consistently and listening to his coach, he grew more confident with each game.

Winning the district championship became a defining moment, representing hard work, growth, and belief coming together.

Having played since he was nine years old, Tre is continuing his journey with the goal of playing in high school, carrying with him lessons in discipline, growth, and perseverance.

A Commitment to Wellness

The Fuel Up Flag Football Wellness Event highlights the connection between nutrition, movement, and performance.

At YES Prep, wellness is part of how students learn, grow, and succeed. Events like Fuel Up create opportunities for students to build confidence, strengthen relationships, and see what is possible when they are fueled and focused.

At North Forest Secondary, that impact was clear. Students showed up ready to play, support one another, and lead both on and off the field.
