YES Prep Public Schools
JENNIFER PEREZ

Introducing our new blog series celebrating the exceptional teachers who hold the Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA) designation and/or Level IV distinction! YES Prep was among the first Texas districts approved for TIA participation, paving the way for a sustainable path where our most effective educators can achieve a higher income without leaving the classroom.

Through TIA, YES Prep teachers earn designations—Recognized, Exemplary, and Master—based on student growth and performance on the Instructional Excellence Rubric, unlocking an annual allotment of up to $32,000 for five years.

Level IV teachers represent the top 14% of educators at YES Prep, identified through their performance on the Instructional Excellence Rubric, Teacher and Family Survey and Core Values Competencies Rubric. These teachers receive additional perks, including bonuses, access to specialized professional development and leadership opportunities and recognition.

Level IV teachers at YES Prep represent 14% of the teacher population, totaling 146 educators with an average of 5.1 years of experience within the organization.

This year-long series will spotlight these outstanding educators, whose commitment to student growth and instructional excellence sets a powerful example across our district.

Pathway to YES Prep

Ms. Carothers’ journey to YES Prep began in college, where she worked as a tutor for students who needed additional support in various subjects. Seeing the potential of young learners and the impact of a dedicated educator, she decided to pursue a teaching career focused on educational equity and meaningful engagement in the classroom.

Demystifying Greatness: Her Strategy for Success

She strives to bring joy and enthusiasm into her lessons, focusing on creating a positive and engaging environment. By bringing an upbeat energy to each class, she finds that students are more open to learning and become genuinely interested in the subject matter. Her ability to maintain an inclusive and lively classroom atmosphere helps students thrive both academically and personally.

Building Transformative Relationships

One relationship that stands out in her teaching journey involved a student she taught during her second year. After struggling academically, this student returned to visit her and shared how her positive impact and belief in him had been a driving force in his success.

This experience was a humbling reminder for Anna of the transformative power teachers have in students’ lives, reaffirming her commitment to building strong connections with each student.

Closing Thoughts: Why YES Prep is the Place to Teach

For Anna, YES Prep represents a commitment to educational equity and a collaborative approach to student achievement. She values the school’s mission to prepare students for success and believes it provides a supportive environment where teachers are empowered to make a difference in their students’ lives.
