YES Prep Public Schools
YES Prep

At YES Prep Public Schools, we are committed to providing a quality education that sets our students up for a bright and successful future. It’s a big goal and not something we can accomplish on our own. We’re locking arms with the broader Houston community to serve YES Prep families.

The YES Prep community coordinators will be a connector between our campuses and their direct communities -business owners, local officials and community members - all with the goal of advancing our students.

You may have already seen them in your community, join us in welcoming our three new community coordinators: Brandy, Jessica and Kiara.

Brandy Rucker

California-born and Texas-raised, Brandy graduated high school in Houston and studied psychology at Texas A&M Kingsville. She is currently pursuing a master’s in counseling at Houston Baptist University. After receiving her undergraduate degree, she pursued a career in advocacy, working with homeless youth, promoting mental health and advocating for the intellectually disabled at The Harris Center. Brandy joined YES Prep as an English II teacher three years ago. Now serving as a community coordinator, she said, “I will bring my tenacity, ambition, resilience and desire to effect change to our communities.”

Jessica was born and raised in Miami, Florida by her Haitian mother. A former ESOL student, she became a first-generation college graduate with a bachelor’s in education from Edward Waters College. She has served children and families for over 15 years as a classroom teacher, career coach, student life counselor and in-home family consultant. Confident her experience has prepared her for the community coordinator role, Jessica shared, “I am honored to be able to pair my professional experiences along with my natural skills and expertise to serve families throughout the Houston community.”

Kiara Cabrera

A YES Prep Southeast Secondary alumnus, Kiara attended The University of Texas at Austin where she earned her Bachelor of Science and Arts in Human Development and Family Sciences. Kiara joined YES Prep's COVID Response Team, where she enforced school guidance and safety protocols on a case-by-case scenario. Transitioning to be a community coordinator, Kiara stated, “my goal is to learn and live by the mission that believed in me when the statistics and barriers were against me.”
