The YES Prep District Science Fair is an exciting annual tradition that brings together the brightest young minds from across the district. Science fair challenges students to explore their curiosity and tackle real-world problems through research and innovation. Completing a science fair project is a mandatory part of the 6th and 7th grade science curriculum. However, each campus selects up to 8 of their best projects to go on and compete at the district science fair at the YES Prep Home Office. This year was the third annual year for the District Science Fair, and the event continues to grow in both participation and quality.

This year’s fair featured 32 outstanding projects presented to a panel of 18 judges who volunteered from diverse career fields across the city. Judges included lawyers, teachers, senior YES Prep students, tax managers, and scientists, each bringing unique perspectives to the evaluation process. In addition to traditional awards for first, second, and third place, the Family Choice Award allowed families to vote for their favorite project, ensuring everyone had a chance to engage.

The winners of this year’s competition demonstrated exceptional creativity and hard work. Damian Rodriguez from YES Prep Southside earned first place, Eduardo Ramirez from YES Prep Northside took second, and Jonathan Cruz from YES Prep West secured third. Their remarkable projects have earned them invitations to compete in the prestigious Science and Engineering Fair of Houston (SEFH). The fair not only celebrates student success but also underscores the importance of a well-rounded education in shaping a brighter, more innovative future for all.
