Nationally recognized public school system expanding school meal program, opening new campuses to serve more Houston students

(HOUSTON)—As families across the Houston area struggle to pay bills and keep their children fed while the COVID-19 pandemic rages on, YES Prep Public Schools is ramping up support with a new meal delivery plan to feed thousands of students who choose to continue learning from home.

Beginning Feb. 1, YES Prep will deliver breakfasts and lunches for all seven days of the week to every student learning virtually at stand alone YES Prep campuses. The meal delivery program will serve students in 9,000 homes and eliminate the need for families with strained incomes to leave work to pick up school meals.

“YES Prep has always been dedicated to serving healthy breakfasts and lunches to all students, and now we’re taking them directly to the homes of every family,” YES Prep Public Schools CEO Mark DiBella said. “We refuse to let anything stand in the way of our students’ nutrition and anything else they may need to stay focused on their studies.”

YES Prep Public Schools is delivering the multi-day meal packs in partnership with Preferred Meals, a K-12 by Elior company.

YES Prep campuses provide meals, electronic devices, transportation, special education, English-language learning and access to healthcare, mental health, and other student support services.

YES Prep is expanding and opening two new elementary schools, and families have until Feb. 12 to register for the opportunity to enroll students at one of YES Prep’s 23 campuses for the 2021-22 school year. Interested families can sign up for the lottery 24 hours a day.  (Enrollment for YES Prep partnership campuses Northbrook Middle and Northbrook High School is available via Spring Branch Independent School District’s lottery.) Families seeking additional information about YES Prep’s lottery and elementary schools are invited to call 713.967.9000 or visit www.yesprep.org/lottery.

A nationally recognized public school system in Houston serving more than 15,000 students across 21 schools, YES Prep Public Schools are open and tuition-free to all children with no special requirements for admittance. YES Prep uses a random, automated lottery for schools when there are more students interested in attending than available classroom space.
