Hundreds of YES Prep Public Schools students, teachers and staff are moving into their new YES Prep East End campus.

YES Prep East End Secondary has for the past 15 years provided a high-quality, college-prep education to children in Houston’s East End neighborhood. As the community has grown, so has the school. More than 950 students will walk through the doors of a newly built campus at 8401 Lawndale St. for the first time on Wednesday, Oct. 20.

“The new building opens a new chapter for East End and way more opportunities for us,” YES Prep East End Student Council President Sarahy Ceja said.

The campus now will house middle and high school students under the same roof and will include a new gym, science and technology laboratories, art and music rooms, and a community park.

“I’m excited about the new gym,” freshman Israel Ortiz said. “And we get to have home games.”

YES Prep East End, with 90 percent first-generation college students and an 85 percent economically disadvantaged population, is currently ranked in the top 3 percent of high schools in the nation by US News & World Report.

In August 2022, YES Prep East End Elementary will open at the existing campus—8329 Lawndale St.—in order to provide the same quality education to area families with younger children.

“We are overjoyed and eager to head into East End’s next phase as we expand to meet the community’s demand for the highest quality education,” YES Prep Public Schools CEO Mark DiBella said.

Focused on supporting every student on their path to college and careers of their choice, YES Prep Public Schools serves more than 17,000 students across 23 campuses. Nationally recognized YES Prep schools are tuition-free to all children with no special requirements for admittance. In addition to a rigorous education from caring teachers and staff, YES Prep campuses provide free meals; technology devices; transportation; special education, English-language learning, healthcare and mental health support services; athletics and fine arts; and more.
