One of the newest YES Prep Public Schools elementary schools is hosting a Turkey and Meal Kit Giveaway for families in need. YES Prep North Rankin Elementary will welcome families on Tuesday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to noon at Rockstar Energy Bike Park, 12257 Kuykendahl Rd. (77067). The giveaway will provide all the ingredients needed to prepare a traditional Thanksgiving feast, including a turkey, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, cranberry sauce, corn and green beans.
North Rankin Elementary is one of a record three new elementary schools set to be opened in August 2024 by YES Prep Public Schools — one of the fastest growing and highest performing public charter school systems in the U.S. The Thanksgiving giveaway has been led by Stephanee Dorsey, a 15-year career educator and founding principal of North Rankin Elementary. Being a servant leader is her top priority in bringing value to the community.
“There is so much power in serving families and community building. This giveaway not only provides Thanksgiving meals to our families, but also connects them to our new North Rankin elementary school,” Dorsey said. “As the founding principal of YES Prep North Rankin Elementary, I will continue to carry out my vision of a high bar of academic excellence and strong community building in this North Houston community. Mediocrity is not an option; only excellence will do because that’s the norm for my future Sparks and their families, and this community deserves it.”
The Turkey and Meal Kit Giveaway is open to all families in the North Houston area in need. No pre-registration is required; however, it is first come, first served. One turkey per family. The family representative must be at least 18 years old. For more information, please contact YES Prep Public Schools at (713) 967-9000.
In addition to the turkey and meal kits, North Rankin Elementary is excited to partner with Rockstar Energy Bike Park as well as several organizations that will provide families with resources, giveaways and information about what is available to them in the community: H-E-B, Raising Cane’s Chicken Fingers, Beta Pi Chapter of Lota Phi Lambda Sorority Inc., Eduvention Mentoring and Counseling, Civic Heart Community Services, H-Town Angelz Social Group, Kinetic Corporate Wellness, Amir’s Tax Service, University of Houston, Eight Million Stories, Kona Ice, Harris County Public Health, Prairie View A&M University, Lone Star College Houston North, Revolution Soccer Complex, The Pink Spa and Lounge.
