YES Prep to honor Janet Clark, Founding and Current Chair of the Board of Trustees and Former CFO of Global Energy Company at the 21st Annual Leading Houston Forward Luncheon

Dr. Ruth J. Simmons, first African-American president of an Ivy League Institution and current president of Prairie View A&M University, to serve as Keynote Speaker


HOUSTON - On Thursday, October 11, 2018, YES Prep will host its 21st annual Leading Houston Forward luncheon at The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts.

Named after YES Prep founder, the inaugural Chris Barbic Legacy Award will be presented to longtime supporter and current chair of the Board of Trustees Janet Clark, for her inspirational leadership and fervent commitment to ensuring all students have access to high-quality education. Clark is a leader in the Houston Energy Community, having served as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Marathon Oil and Director of EOG Resources.

Dr. Ruth J. Simmons, current president of Prairie View A&M University, will serve as luncheon’s keynote speaker. Simmons became the first African-American woman to head a major college or university when she was appointed president of Smith College and the first African-American president of an Ivy League Institution when she served as the president of Brown University.

The Leading Houston Forward luncheon honorary chairs, and long-time YES Prep supporters, are Eliza and Stuart Stedman. Event co-chairs are Madeline & Drew Masterson and Ann & Richard Vaughan.

WHEN: Thursday, October 11, 2018 – Doors open 11:30 a.m., Program begins 12 noon

WHERE: The Hobby Center for the Performing Arts – 800 Bagby Street, Houston, TX 77002
