Next week is Teacher Appreciation Week. We are thankful to have the BEST teachers EVER! We invite you to show your child’s teacher some love by sharing words of appreciation.
May is also Asian Pacific Islander American (APIA) Heritage Month! Every year, YES Prep hosts the APIA Summit where APIA students can celebrate their identity and culture. This year, our APIA Summit will be a city-wide tour of important sites in the Houston APIA community. To all our APIA students and families, we value you and are so grateful that you have chosen to be a part of our YES Prep community!

MAY POSSIP PULSE CHECK – SCHOOL UNIFORMS 2023-2024
Tell us about your experience! Here at YES Prep, we want to thank you for choosing us and we value our families. To help us improve the quality of the services we provide, we invite you to check your email or phone for the Possip Survey. In this survey, you'll be asked about decisions for the coming school year including school uniforms. The survey will be available from Thursday, May 11 to Sunday, May 14. It will take less than a minute to complete. If you did not receive an email, please reach out to your school’s front office.
SIGN UP FOR THREE NEW ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS’ INTEREST FORMS
As you know, YES Prep plans to open THREE more YES Prep elementary schools in August 2024 in the Hobby, Southwest and North Rankin (Kuykendahl) communities!
Each school will open serving grades pre-K – 2nd and will add additional grade levels each year to include 3rd, 4th and 5th grade.

For families in these neighborhoods who are interested in enrolling their child(ren) at these schools, the lottery applications will officially open in October 2023.
SENIOR SIGNING DAY – PERMISSION SLIPS DUE MAY 10
We are less than two weeks away!
We are excited for all our YES Prep family and friends to come together on Thursday, May 18, 2023, at NRG Stadium, for Senior Signing Day! Seniors and their guests will register for their tickets using EventSquid, as instructed in their Senior Seminar class. Parking passes will also be sent home with seniors.
While seniors are expected to go directly to NRG, YES Prep will be transporting 8th through 11th-grade students to the event.
All 8th through 12th-grade students must turn in signed permission slips by Wednesday, May 10, to attend. YES Prep parents/guardians will complete their permission slip in Skyward. YES Prep Northbrook Middle and High school parents/guardians must complete permission slips via Microsoft form.

2023 COMMENCEMENT – MAY 27 & JUNE 1-4
In less than a month we will be celebrating commencement with the Class of 2023!
YES Prep Northbrook High will be celebrating commencement first on Saturday, May 27. Our other thirteen secondary schools, including the founding graduating class of YES Prep Southside Secondary, will have their commencements on June 1-4, 2023.
Each campus will be sharing information with our seniors and their families. Commencement will be ticketed this year. Tickets will be sent home with seniors through their Senior Seminar Class. For more information, please visit yesprep.org/commencement.
“LAUNCH YOUR CAREER WITH YES!” HIRING EVENT ON MAY 20
YES Prep is looking for excellent teachers and staff for the 2023-2024 school year! If you or someone you know is looking for a career in education, we will be hosting “Launch your Career with YES!” on Saturday, May 20 at YES Prep West Secondary.
From 10 a.m. to noon we will have a job fair and from noon to 2 p.m. selected candidates will participate in interview sessions. Teaching Excellence, our alternative certification program, will be present to facilitate lesson planning sessions along with coaching and feedback sessions for candidates.

GIRL RISING EXHIBITION – MAY 25
YES Prep’s Class of 2024 invites you to attend the Girl Rising Exhibition on Thursday, May 25, from 5 – 6 p.m., at the YES Prep Home Office Spindletop Center. Participating juniors will present their social action projects that advocate for girls around the world. Juniors from the following YES Prep campuses will be in attendance: East End, Eisenhower High, Fifth Ward, Gulfton, North Central, Northbrook High, Northline, Southeast and White Oak. Please make plans to join us and support all our participating juniors.

JUNIOR FAMILIES, DID YOU MISS TAX DAY?
For families with 11th graders, completing federal income taxes is one of the most important steps you can take to help your child afford college. Tax information is a key piece of the college financial aid process. Current juniors will be using the 2022 taxes this coming October for the FAFSA/TASFA application. Having your 2022 taxes completed will help ensure students access the aid money they qualify for.
Missing parent tax information is a significant barrier for students when applying for financial aid and directly impacts their college decision.
If you did not file your tax returns last month, by April 15, 2023, please reach out to a trained tax professional on what steps you can take to file your tax return. For information about filing your taxes late (after the April 15 deadline), click here.

SENIOR SIGNING DAY – FECHA LIMITE PARA ENTREGAR EL PERMISO ES EL 10 DE MAYO
¡Estamos a menos de dos semanas!
¡Estamos emocionados de que toda nuestra familia y amigos de YES Prep se reúnan el jueves 18 de mayo de 2023 en el NRG Stadium para Senior Signing Day! Los seniors y sus invitados se inscribirán para obtener sus boletos usando EventSquid, como se les informó a los seniors en su clase de Senior Seminar. Los pases de estacionamiento también se enviarán a casa con los seniors.
A los estudiantes en el grado 12, se les espera que vayan directamente a NRG. YES Prep transportará a los estudiantes de los grados 8 a 11 al evento.
Todos los estudiantes de los grados 8 a 12 deben entregar la forma de permiso firmada antes del miércoles, 10 de mayo, para poder asistir. EXPOSICIÓN GIRL RISING – 25 DE MAYO
La clase de 2024 de YES Prep los invita a asistir a la exhibición Girl Rising el jueves, 25 de mayo, de 5 a 6 p. m., en el Spindletop Center de la oficina central de YES Prep. Los juniors participantes presentarán sus proyectos de acción social que abogan por las niñas de todo el mundo. FAMILIAS DE GRADO 11, ¿SE PERDIERON EL DÍA DE IMPUESTOS?
Para las familias con estudiantes de 11.º grado, completar los impuestos federales es uno de los pasos más importantes que puede tomar para ayudar a su hijo a pagar la universidad. La información fiscal es una pieza clave del proceso de ayuda financiera universitaria. Los jóvenes actuales utilizarán los impuestos de 2022 el próximo octubre para la solicitud FAFSA/TASFA. Tener sus impuestos de 2022 completos ayudará a garantizar que los estudiantes accedan al dinero de ayuda para el que califican.
La falta de información fiscal de los padres es una barrera para los estudiantes cuando solicitan ayuda financiera y afecta directamente su decisión universitaria.
