TELPAS stands for Texas English Language Proficiency Assessment System. It measures the language development of all Texas students who speak a language other than English at home or themselves most of the time. Students are assessed in 4 language domains: Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing.
Online TELPAS testing for students in grades 2-12 will be held from Tues., Feb. 20 until Fri., March 1, 2024. Students in kindergarten and first grade are holistically rated by their teacher.
The TELPAS test is an opportunity for your child to showcase their English language skills.
While we prepare them at school, your support at home can make a world of difference. We encourage you to:
-
Read together: Reading with your child in any language helps them grow academically. Encourage your child to read in English, ask them about new words they see and what they’re reading about.
-
Play language games: Engage in fun activities like word puzzles, charades or story-telling.
-
Engage your student to write: Have them write lists or letters, encourage your student to journal.
Before the test:
-
Remind your student to try their best, but not to get overly worried about the test
-
Spend time relaxing the evening before
-
Make sure your student gets a good night’s sleep
-
Eat healthy meals
