College Initiatives team

The SAT is an assessment used by many colleges and universities to make college admission decisions. While you may have heard that some schools are going “test-optional,” it is important for our students to sit for the exam because SAT scores may be required by some of the schools on their college list, and SAT scores are still required for many scholarships.

Class of 2023

The juniors' first official administration for the SAT will be on Sat., Dec. 4, 2021, the week they return from the upcoming holiday break.

Have you registered to take your SAT?

If you have not already registered, late registration is open until Nov. 23, 2021 (for registrations made online or by phone). To view SAT dates and registration deadlines, click here. If you qualify for a fee waiver, you can register without having to pay the late registration fee. Be sure to reach out to your Junior Seminar teacher if you have any questions about the SAT or if you need help registering for the test.

Families, your child has been working through Kaplan Test Prep and been doing weekly practice in Kahn Academy as part of Junior Seminar to prepare for the SAT. We want to encourage you to keep your student engaged in test prep over the holiday break (Nov. 22-26). Encourage them to take at least 45 minutes to practice on Khan Academy and engage in other practice activities to continue to feel confident and prepared for the test.

Class of 2022

SAT test scores

For seniors who took the SAT on Oct. 13, 2021, test scores should be available now in students’ College Board Registration Portals. We know that not all students have received their test scores yet, including students who took the SAT on the makeup test date, including students at YES Prep Southwest Secondary. Those who tested on Oct. 28 should receive their scores at the end of next week on or around Nov. 19. If you tested on Oct. 13 and have not been notified of your test scores by the College Board, talk with your college counselor to see if they can help you access them.

SAT Prep at YES Prep

At YES Prep, our mission is to ensure that every student is a competitive college applicant so that they can successfully matriculate to and graduate from college.  A key component of our students' college readiness is their performance on college entrance exams like the SAT. Although a student's performance on the SAT is not the only factor used in determining a student's admissibility to college, it is an important factor of a student’s application to college.
